Town Talk by Gail Sygutek

Well folks I’m back in my element writing my Town Talk. There has been so much going on in my life lately that I haven’t had too much time to think of anything else in my life. But as I stated in the Editorial, printed in this week’s issue of the Pass Herald, I’m back - good, bad or indifferent - I’m back.

There are a tremendous amount of issues I would like to tackle but my partner, Bud, being the pacifier and myself the rebel rouser I find myself in a lot of hot water in the newspaper so while I’m still here I will write and try to keep it at a lower, softer level I see that we have 5 people vying for the MLA’s position given up by our MLA, Dave Coutts. Good Luck to all candidates.

Dave and I often had differences of opinions, and our share of disagreements, but his shoes will be hard to fill. I wish to take this opportunity to wish Dave and his wife, Phyllis, great health, and a future filled with happy memories of children and grandchildren by their side, and if you have a moment I sincerely hope there will be fond memories associated with your many years as our MLA for the Livingstone/Macleod constituency.

I have been personally asked to run for other parties but I won’t even consider it. I am and always will be a Conservative at heart. I wouldn’t even consider another party just to climb the political ladder, and furthermore, I can’t see myself ever following political policy, especially if I didn’t believe the policy was in the best interest of the public. I do have my own values and principles and I strongly adhere to them, especially when it comes to the public. That cute picture you saw in last week’s issue of someone wishing this adorable baby a Happy 24t” Birthday was non other than everyone’s favorite reporter, our reporter, Nathen Gallagher. Nathen turned 24 last week, November 5th and we at the Pass Herald wish him Happy Birthday with many, many more filled with wonderful memories. He is a very special person and deserves all the wonderful things life has to offer.

Well folks time is passing so quickly and within 42 sleeps it will be Christmas. Eve and Santa will be arriving - I hope you are all getting ready. For as long as I can remember I have always celebrated Christmas Eve at home waiting for the kids and grandchildren to come over as I always had Christmas Stockings for all. This year I will not be around for this event, however I’m sure Christmas will be celebrated by my children and grandchildren and Santa will arrive the same as he always has. Christmas is a magical time - a time to dream, a time to wish and a time for reflection. Enjoy it, for once the kids are gone it will never be the same. But then again I guess we must always keep in mind that nothing is constant and things change every day, every minute and with every breath you take. Seize the moment for tomorrow it may be gone - eat, drink and be merry.

The other day I received a Thank You card from someone who has been and will always be very special to me. I thought I would take the time to share it with you and it reads as follows:

Dear Gail.-

We are sending our thanks and appreciation to you for all your hard work on council over the past years.Your integrity, conscientiousness and caring are attributes that made you an important and integral part and voice for the community you love. You will be missed!.’We wish you peace and relaxation.

S&S

Well it doesn’t look as though I will be too much peace and relaxation for a while considering all that is happening in the Pass Herald right now. But soon, hopefully very soon, all that will change and then I can enjoy peace and relaxation. I never realized, even at my age, how you can find out who you are and what you want. I am finding myself and instead of doing for others I have decided to make me the most important thing in my life. I have to like me and do for me before I can do for anyone else at this crossroads in my life.

Take  care folks - I’ll be talking to you in two weeks time. Thanks to John Kinnear and watch for his column next week.

A new Towntalk will be published every  other week.
