Pass Powderkeg ski hill prepares for new season

Expanded snow making capacity and new features this yea

After a highly successful season last year, in which the local ski hill broke attendance records for the second year in a row, the staff at the Pass Powderkeg is excitedly preparing for a whole new winter.

“We’re just gearing up for our winter ski season,” says ski hill manager Dave Morrison. “We’re hoping to build on the success of last year.” Last year not only saw record attendance, but also a new high for the hill’s snow making abilities. Able to keep good snow on the hill virtually all season long thanks to their increased capacity and improved design, this year they look to improve even further.

“We’re ready to make snow right now,” says Morrison. “We’re just waiting for Mother Nature to cooperate.” He says that they have added a brand new snow gun, this one built in-house by the ski hill’s millwright, Jaret Pawluk. The Pass Powderkeg is once again offering its half-price season ticket sale, from now until December 15. All season tickets are 50 percent off if purchased during this time. This is a strategy that has proven successful for the hill in terms of increased attendance, evidenced by the records set each of the last two years, both of which also featured half-price ticket sales.

The hill will also be represented at the upcoming Ski Swap, to be held at the Crowsnest Centre on November 10. “We’ve had a number of improvements,” says Morrison. “Obviously we’re pretty excited for the upcoming season.” Skiers can look forward not only to the increased snow making capacity, but also to a lot of trail grooming, new terrain park features, and expanded ski school programming. The Pass Powderkeg is also looking at starting a local race series, says Morrison, in which people can race against friends or the clock. He says that more information on this addition will be available soon.

The hill will be running its school programs again as well, and will host several special events through the season. For more information, contact the Pass Powderkeg Ski Hill or visit them online at www.passpowderkeg.ca
