Editorial

What say you?

Over the past few days a number of readers of the Herald have asked me a number of interesting questions that I consider worth publishing. I was asked to find out what material or objects will be approved for pickup during the forth coming spring cleanup in the Crowsnest Pass.

Most of the people I talk to were confused after reading that numerous articles will now be restricted from the spring program this year.

I passed these concerns on to our outstanding reporter Nathen, who may be able to obtain the information needed to help all of us in selecting what is acceptable for pickup by the municipality.

Next comment as I write this editorial is the talk on the street is about the individual who disposed of live puppies in a chemical toilet at Crowsnest Lake last week. Rumor has it that he/she has been identified.

Unfortunately I doubt under our Canadian justice system if the punishment will fit the crime if the person is caught. Every time I travel along the highway to Lethbridge and drive past numerous feed lots I reflect on the inhumane (in my opinion) treatment we humans render on cattle enclosed in confined areas. The smell of the cattle excrement at these locations is overwhelming and must surely represent a health problem to both humans and animals. It would seem to me that in this day and age we should find a more humane way to treat animals being fattened and scheduled for slaughter.

At least that's the way I see it.
