Time marches on

It seems like it was only yesterday when we were taking down the Christmas decorations in the Herald office.

It seems like only yesterday when our sports page was full of Timberwolves Junior Hockey results. It seems like only yesterday when we were announcing the start of a new swimming season and the community pool was opening for public swimming.

I could continue and fill a page or two in this issue describing how quickly time is moving on in my life.

Every time I have a birthday I have a difficult time accepting the inevitable factor that I'm getting old and can't do anything about it or slow down the annual event.

While discussing the subject of age, I wonder where the saying, 'Golden Years' ever came from. Somehow these wonderful years they talk about seem to be bypassing me. As I grow older the days seem to melt into weeks, weeks into years and years into decades. My reading habits are also changing and I spend more time reading obituaries in the Herald and those printed in daily newspapers.

There's no denying that my daily interests and hobbies are changing and my energy levels are declining. My chair in front of the television set seems to be getting more and more comfortable for me, indicating that many of my former pastimes are being regulated to the proverbial back burner.

As I said before, where are the 'Golden Years' hiding? Or am I expecting too much out of life?

At least that's the way I see it.
