Pass Herald moving

Sygutek, publisher of the Crowsnest Pass Herald, announced last week that the Herald will be moving to a new and more central location in Blairmore.

Thanks to the overwhelming energy of Gail's husband, Willy, a large portion of the Herald's equipment and supplies have already been moved to the new site near Johnny's Barber Shop in downtown Blairmore.

Those who know Gail best should be aware that she is, pardon the expression, a clean freak. The new location will lend well to her passion of having everything in order and spotless to the nth degree.

A lot of work and expense was necessary to upgrade the offices and it is expected that the new location will be more convenient for the public and Herald employees.

Price of Coal Will Soar

It has just been announced that Elk Valley Coal, the second largest supplier of hard coking coal in the world, is hoping to increase production by as much as five million tonnes to a new production level of 25 million tonnes in 2008.

One of the reasons for the projected increase in coal production is attributed to the recent flooding of coal mines in Australia. It has been reported that it will take many months before Australia will be able get them back into production.

As the demand for coal increases world wide and new methods of eliminating pollution are developed the old saying 'black gold' may yet be realized.

The increasing demand for coal and the close proximity of the Crowsnest Pass to these huge resources should stabilize the economy of this valley for decades to come.

At least that’s the way I see it.
