Even the big boys can fall

A trip east or west in Alberta and British Columbia is all it takes for a person to realize that the Crowsnest Pass is one of the very few communities to plow its roads during the winter months.

Occasionally there are a few problems with plowing various areas in the Pass; however, all in all the municipal crews do an excellent job keeping our roads open throughout the winter.

One of the most common complaints heard around the coffee row concerns driveways/ sidewalks being plowed in after the residents have just shoveled them out.

The alternative of course is no plowing at all, which is okay if you own or drive a 4x4 car or truck.

The majority of drivers however do not own these types of vehicles and would, in many cases, leave their cars/trucks at home following a heavy snowstorm.

Numerous councils over the past years have discussed the continuance of plowing when discussing the municipal budget.

It costs money to plow snow and we assume that most other communities find it too expensive to add into their fiscal budgets.

Perhaps someday our council will follow the majority of communities in Alberta and do away with the incurred expenses of plowing throughout the Municipality of the Crowsnest Pass.

I hope it's not in my time.

At least that's the way I see it.
